In VICTORIA alone we have according to stats 2015...74,385 incidences reported of DV. That is reported ones, it is believed about 95% men do not report their DV, or if they do its not taken seriously.

 

Currently in Victoria we have no crisis accommodation for pets who are fleeing with their humans to safety.

 

The reality is, when someone is fleeing DV or being removed from the home a couple of things happen:

If they are heading to a Refuge/Shelter they are often told that they cannot bring their pets, that they will have to give it up at a pound.

 

This first predicament places the survivor of DV in a difficult, devastating situation.

 

Not only are they seeking shelter for themselves they want to ensure that the pet who can often be the only source of love, joy, comfort in their life.

 

Many will either stay in the DV situation, or they will rough sleep placing themselves in danger. Because they cannot bring themselves to give up something they love with all their heart.

They are fleeing the home and looking at couch surfing or find shared accommodation.

This brings scenarios like their pet is not welcomed, and again they are given this decision of having to surrender their pet, their sanity, they joy, the only thing that may make sense in a very stressful overwhelming situation.

Glimmer for Pets is about trying to remove that heartache and save a pet and owner.

​

Both need each other, the pet never asked to be placed in this situation. So it is about giving them a GLIMMER of HOPE!

There are services available in South Australia and Queensland currently that support Domestic Violence Victims and their pets.

​

In Victoria we have the highest stats of reported incidences of Domestic Violence.

​

In Victoria we have no crisis support for Pets.

​

This is about saving a loved pet, from being put in a pound, and at times we often know what happens when a pet is surrendered to a pound. Sometimes they are not re-homed.
